Agencies wishing to establish learning engineering as a process and practice can use an iterative process

Learning is a complex problem. What works for some learners sometimes doesn't work for others, and context often plays a large role in how well we understand content. One way to conquer this challenge? Placing the student at the center of education development, a key component of learning engineering.

Learning engineering addresses the complex factors that help or hinder learning through iterative, data-informed tactics that improve content and systems for a broader range of learners. It employs a , looking at education in a wider context to understand how different elements interact to create the learning environment. Learning engineering focuses on human-centered design, the sciences behind how learning works, and iterative, data-informed decisionmaking, often within a multidisciplinary team.

This clip, developed by QIP’s Jim Goodell, is taken from a larger video developed for the ICICLE 2024 Learning Engineering Conference and is the first in a series of micro-learning experiences.

This clip provides a brief history and overview of the concept of learning engineering. Learning engineering is a process and practice that applies the learning sciences, using human-centered engineering design methodologies and data-informed decision-making to support learners and their development.
